AlliedSignal Site - Block & Point Streets
Allied Signal In 1845 Isaac Tyson Jr. founded America's first and largest bichromate factory on this peninsula. Chromium was processed here for over 140 years. During the 1990s, the 22-acre site has undergone a multi-million dollar environmental cleanup in preparation for future development by the Allied Signal Corporation, the owner since 1954. The peninsula was originally shaped like a hook (see map) and was inhabited by "ladies of the night". These circumstances prompted one historian to suggest that this site is responsible for the term "hooker".
