National Can Company -
Wolfe & Thames Streets
Between 1880 and 1980, workers manufactured cans and, at other times,
processed food on this site. By 1900 immigrant women and children were
putting in long hours canning oysters and vegetables from the Chesapeake
region, making Baltimore the canning capital of the world. The building
was renovated as apartments in 1983, making it one of the first
industrial structures in Fells Point to be converted to residences.
