  • Arlington National Cemetary

  • The national burial ground comprises 612 acres, many of which belonged to Robert E. Lee, whose family mansion still stands on the property. Those interred here include thousands of military veterans: the crew of the Challenger space shuttle; John F. Kennedy and Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis; Tomb of the Unknowns - an unidentified soldier from World War I and II, Korea and Vietnam. The Tomb is guarded around the clock by an honor guard which changes on the half hour. Don't miss the Visitor's Center and Tourmobile. Tickets may be purchased for $2.75 at the Visitor's Center.   • John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Abraham Lincoln here during a performance of Our American Cousin on April 14, 1865.   • The world's largest museum complex, the Smithsonian Institution, was established more than 100 years ago.   • A guided tour of this magnificent structure housing the Legislative Branch of government departs daily every 15 minutes, 9AM - 3:45PM.   • Established by a unanimous act of Congress, this is America's only national memorial to the Holocaust. Experience this permanent exhibit of artifacts, films, photographs and oral histories that document Nazi genocide. Timed tickets to the exhibit are available. Not recommended for children under 12.
