BSM Track Updates . . . by John LaCosta
S
aturday (1/29/00)
The main task of the day was to clear out the snow from the past week. The
snow was so deep that it took three snow blowers to clear off track 1 & 2 and a path way to the Visitor's Center. We then started the slow task of opening the line. Normally once we clear the substation it is not a problem. This time we have to clear the 2 to 6 inches of snow above the top of the rails away in order to move out the line.
By the time we got to the Highway yard we all had done more snow moving than
we ever wanted to do this winter. With the help of the Highway yard front end
loader the line was cleared to 27th street and we called it a day.
Even with the snow predicted for Sunday the snow had to be cleared to allow
us any change of opening the line for next week.
Those that helped shovel were Ed Amrhein, Mel Boteler, Chris Howell, Dan
Lawrence, Rick Williams, Carl Merson, Paul; Ritterhoff and I.
Sunday (1/30/00)
With no place for people to park and the snow coming down the museum was
closed.
Saturday (2/5/00)
Again the crew attacked the snow. This time it was the North avenue loop and
the 28th Street loop. The crew was Ed Amrhein, Carl Merson, Chris Howell, Dan
Lawrence and I.
I also replaced the broken antenna on the Vistior's Center with the replacement.
Rick Obbink and Gary worked in the shop.
Sunday (2/6/00)
At last a Sunday with nice weather.
Bob Krueger was Dispatcher with John Diefenbach, Carl Thistel, Carl Merson,
Justin Thillman and David Navjokas as crew.
