BSM Track Updates . . . by John LaCosta
S
aturday (4/1)
Buster Hughes, Mark Dawson and crew continued their work on 4533(was 3550),
including the hood and exterior paint. The hood is now ready for priming and
then the final coat(s) of paint will be applied. The new air reservoirs were
installed and should be connected in the next few weeks.
Sunday (4/2)
Ben Bates was Dispatcher with Buster Hughes and Carl Thistel as crew.
Saturday (4/8)
After many years pointing in one direction, car 4533 was turned around to let
the crew get to the remainder of the exterior of the car to prepare it for
it's new coat of paint. During the turn we found that we still have a problem
with on of the traction motors, more testing next week to identify the cause
of the problem.
Gary and Rick Obbink did the final adjustment on the shaper in preparation to
machining 1164's/3828's journal boxes.
Sunday (4/9)
Carl Merson was Dispatcher with Chris Howell, David Baynes, Jim Robertson and
Maurice Bates as crew.
Buster Hughes and Mark Dawson continued to work on stripping the remaining
red paint from the outside of car 4533 as well as from the doors.
Ed Amrhein, Chris Howell and I worked on repairing the PCC. It turns out that
some of the Christmas decorations worked their way into the 600 Volt DC area
of the car and caused some interesting damage. We will have to get
replacement parts before the car can be put in service, but I hope to have
them by next weekend. One think for sure, no more metalized decorations in
the PCC.
I also continued to install the trolley contactor circuits and expect to
have a buzzer installed in the Dispatcher's office that will buzz when a car
arrives at 28th street loop and leaves.
