Wednesday (5/30)

     Ben Bates was Dispatcher with Mike Citro, Maury Bates and Charlie Plantholt as crew for a daytime charter.

     Saturday (6/2)

     Paul Ritterhoff and I replace the three handrails of 554 with new replacements while Gene Carson and Buster Hughes continued work on 4533's motor hatches.

     Dan Lawrence was Dispatcher with Rick Williams and Dennis Falter as crew.

     Sunday (6/3)

     I was Dispatcher with Justin Thillman, Paul Ritterhoff and Cath La Costa as crew. In the morning we had a special charter of a group from Germany, after the morning visit at BSM, they went on to National Capital.

     Thursday (6/7)

     Bob Krueger was crew with Buster Hughes as crew for an evening charter.

     Saturday (6/9)

     The track crew changed over to brush cutting duty along the line. They concentrated at 22nd street and the North Avenue loop.The crew included Ed Amrhein, Josh Lepman, Ben Bates, Mark Dawson, Jim Robertson, Rick Obbink and Dan Lawrence.

     John Engleman continued working on the "O" gauge layout extension in the Visitor's Center.

     Chris Howell was Dispatcher with Chris McNally, John Diefenbach and Bob Cohen as crew.

     Sunday (6/10)

     David Crow was Dispatcher with Dan Lawrence, Buster Hughes and Tom Phillips as crew.

     Saturday (6/16)

     Ed Amrhein and Josh Lepman continued the brush cutting along the right of way. Chris Mcnally and John Engleman continued working on the display layout. Buster Hughes was busy working on the seats for 4533.

     I spent the morning inspecting and lubricating the trolley wheel, controllers and journal bearing on cars 1164 and 6119. During the inspection of 6119 I noticed a damaged journal bearing. 6119 was taken out of service, the bearing removed and sent to the shop where Ed Amrhien and Rick Obbink poured a new bearing.

     Carl Merson was Dispatcher with Sharon Higgins, David Baynes, Mike Citro and Mel Boteler as crew.

     Sunday (6/17)

     Gary Fairbanks machined 6119's journal bearing. All that is needed is to scrape" the bearing to fit the axel and pack the journal with new waste and oil. The scraping removed any high spots in the bearing so that it contacts the axle over most of its surface. The waste is really wool yarn that is packed into the journal box below the axle and by way of capillary action wicks up the oil to the axle. If every thing is going correctly, the bearing is lifted off the axle by a thin film of oil and no wear occurs on either the bearing or the axle.

     John O'Neil was Dispatcher with Chris McNally, Andy Blumberg and Jim Robertson as crew.

     Wednesday (6/20)

     Warren Olt was Dispatcher with Ben Bates, Maury Bates, Charlie Plantholt and Jim Robertson as crew for a daytime charter.

     Saturday (6/23)

     Mark Hurley was Dispatcher with John Engleman, David Navjokas and John Diefenbach was crew.

     The brush trimming got more serious as we went out the line to trim trees that were too close to the second track. The trimming is easier to do before the overhead wire is installed. This was a difficult job since the trees are on the back next to the track and are hard to trim without some sort of platform to hold the trimer about the wire. The Museum rented a lift that allowed us to trim the trees in a safe and effcient maner. The tree trimming crew was Ed Amrhein, Rick Obbink and myself.

     Gay Fairbanks worked up in the 22nd street shop while Buster Hughes worked on 4533.
